According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United’s Barry Douglas is in talks with Watford while Celtic are also monitoring his situation ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 31-year-old has failed to make an appearance for Leeds this season.

A report in the Daily Mail last month highlighted Celtic’s interest in him.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has praised the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man, calling him very useful despite his lack of game-time this season.

“I give you the same answer as I gave you with Gotts, but added to the fact he has played many times for the first team. If he continues with us he will be a very useful player for our project,” Bielsa said of Douglas to Leeds Live late last month.

But with the deadline drawing closer, Douglas may seek regular football elsewhere.

A fresh report from the Daily Mail claim despite Celtic’s interest, Championship side Watford are now pushing hardest for his signature as they enter advanced talks.

The Hornets are looking to bounce back immediately following their relegation last term.

Under the guidance of new manager Vladimir Ivic, Watford have taken seven points from their opening four games with many of last term’s first-team members absent.

Douglas has just eight months remaining on his Leeds deal. The Whites would benefit more from cashing in on him now rather than lose him for nothing next year.

Celtic, meanwhile, are still quite light on left-back options with 22-year-old Greg Taylor starting seven of their eight Scottish Premiership fixtures to date.
