Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen to bring Lee Tomlin back to the City Ground this summer.

According to a report from Nottinghamshire Live, Lee Tomlin is interested in a potential return to Nottingham Forest this summer, but Aitor Karanka’s men may need to secure a loan deal if they want to bring the 29-year-old back to the City Ground.

Tomlin joined Forest on loan in January, and looked impressive with four goals and three assists coming in 15 Championship appearances. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Karanka is keen to link up with the forward for a third time having also worked with him at Middlesbrough.

However, Nottinghamshire Live reports that Cardiff City’s promotion to the top flight has resulted in a wage hike for Tomlin that makes a permanent deal for the former Bristol City ace much more unlikely.

Nottinghamshire Live adds that Forest could be relying on a loan deal that sees the Bluebirds subsidise some of his wages, but Tomlin is open to the idea of returning to the club.

If Cardiff struggle to shift Tomlin off their books permanently, it perhaps seems unlikely that they will have any problems with sending him back to Forest for a year – even if they have to pay some of his wages.

The report suggests that Neil Warnock has not included Tomlin in his plans, so letting him leave for another year at Forest seems to make a lot of sense as it could potentially drive up his value for next summer.
