Lee Bullen reportedly plans to target Ben Marshall if he is given the Sheffield Wednesday job beyond the current caretaker spell.
According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (28/7; page 63), Lee Bullen is interested in signing Ben Marshall if he ends up keeping the Sheffield Wednesday job on a more permanent basis.
The Owls’ summer appears to have been derailed by Steve Bruce’s departure. Wednesday have made three permanent signings – with all three players arriving on a free transfer – and are yet to appoint Bruce’s permanent successor.
Bullen has taken caretaker charge for a third time, and it appears that he is making plans in case he may get the chance to stay in charge for longer with a new signing on his radar.
The Sun on Sunday (28/7; page 63) reports that Bullen wants Marshall following his release from Norwich City earlier in the summer. He made just four appearances for the Canaries, and spent much of the season on loan at Millwall.
Marshall would be returning to familiar surroundings if he did end up joining Wednesday this summer. He made 22 appearances during a loan spell while the Owls were in League One.
Wednesday are clearly working with a limited transfer budget this summer, so signing the 28-year-old could be an incredibly shrewd move. He is versatile and would strengthen the Owls’ options out wide and at full-back, and boasts a significant amount of Championship experience.
And given that he is set to be available on a free transfer, it may be worth taking a punt on the former Manchester United trainee regardless of whether Bullen keeps the job for longer or not.
