Coventry City will turn their focus to signing Aston Villa starlet Callum O’Hare on a permanent basis after being awarded the League One title on Tuesday, as reported by The Mirror (10 June, page 45).

With the third-tier season brought to a premature conclusion in highly controversial circumstances this week, the inevitable fury and legal wrangles that will follow threaten to overshadow one of the greatest achievements in recent English football history.

It should not be forgotten, after all, that Coventry have cruised back into the Championship despite playing the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign away from the Ricoh Arena home.

This is a club who have jumped from crisis to crisis for as long as recent memory will allow. So manager Mark Robins deserves huge credit for leading the Sky Blues back into the second division, after almost a decade in the lower leagues.

O’Hare, an attacking midfielder who looked a cut above the rest since joining Coventry in January, played a major role in the club’s return to the big time, with four goals and seven assists in all competitions.

And with his contract at Aston Villa due to expire in July, Robins would jump at the chance to snap up a Solihull-born 22-year-old who, for whatever reason, has not been afforded an opportunity under Villa boss Dean Smith.

The Mirror adds that Coventry face competition from a number of unnamed clubs, with Aston Villa at risk of losing one of the most talented Bodymoor Heath graduates of the last decade on a free.
