Report: Lamine Kone set to stay with Sunderland until end of the season at least

Sunderland defender Lamine Kone had reportedly been made available for transfer.

According to a report in the Northern Echo, Sunderland are set to keep hold of Lamine Kone for the remainder of the season.

Sunderland had been tempted to cash in on Kone this month, to raise funds for their own planned additions.

The Black Cats have been unable to hand Chris Coleman any money to spend this month, and felt that Kone was one of their more saleable assets.

Sunderland have not had any formal bids for the centre-back though, and he is now ‘very likely’ to remain at the Stadium of Light until the end of the campaign.

Coleman has already suggested that Kone has not given him any problems on the training ground, and if he can get back to his best, he could be an important player for the Black Cats.

There is little doubting that Kone has the ability to star in the Championship, but he needs to get back to full fitness.

Kone has been out since November with a knee injury, but he is edging closer to full fitness now.

Sunderland have been able to make two new signings so far this month, with Jake Clarke-Salter and Kazenga Lua Lua arriving.
