Rangers have been linked with Vassilis Lambropoulos.
According to SDNA in Greece, AEK Athens defender Vassilis Lambropoulos is in talks with a mystery foreign club amid links to Rangers.
Lambropoulos, 28, has been something of a late bloomer after stints with Asteras Tripolis, Ethnikos Asteras and Panionios, and has really thrived in recent years following a 2014 switch to AEK Athens.
With nearly 150 appearances for AEK, Lambropoulos has become a regular with the Greek side, and picked up his first two Greek international caps earlier this year.
However, the centre back is out of contract in the summer, and having so far refused to sign a new deal, he has been excluded from the AEK side, meaning he hasn’t played since the 24th of November.
SDNA now report that Lambropoulos is in talks with an unnamed foreign club, but note that Rangers are keen on signing the defender in January.
Logic would suggest that Rangers may well be that mystery club talking to Lambropoulos, setting up a deal to go through when the transfer window opens next month.
Steven Gerrard already has Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley at his disposal in central defence, meaning a move for Lambropoulos right now would be stockpiling at the back.
Yet with Worrall only on loan and the ageing McAuley out of contract next summer, Lambropoulos could have a part to play at Rangers moving forward, with Rangers surely the favourites for his signature.
