Iago Herrerin is fearing three months in limbo after the Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper failed to secure a move to Crystal Palace, West Ham United or Everton during the transfer window, according to El Correo.
As far back as August, Athletic coach Gaizka Garitano admitted publicly that the 32-year-old shot-stopper was free to leave after falling behind the brilliant Unai Simon in the Basque giants’ pecking order.
And we mean ‘free’ in a literal sense.
Athletic, as a goodwill gesture to a man who has spent over a decade at the San Mames, were willing to terminate the final year of his contract with West Ham and Crystal Palace showing an interest (Deia).
But, while Everton instead opted to put their faith in Sweden international Robin Olsen, offers from Palace or West Ham never materialised on deadline day.

According to El Correo, Herrerin is fully aware that he now faces 12 weeks on the sidelines ahead of him.
He is no longer part of Garitano’s plans at Athletic and will therefore be forced to watch the club’s La Liga fixtures from the stands; until the January window swings open and offers him another opportunity to escape.
The report adds that Olympiakos and PAOK were also interested but a move to Greece collapsed.
