Report: Kyle Scott to Newcastle United no longer imminent

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United’s move for Kyle Scott is no longer imminent.

The Northern Echo claimed that Scott was set to sign for Newcastle as soon as Steve Bruce was announced as manager.

It was widely expected that the Chelsea midfielder was about to put pen to paper at St. James’ Park.

However, it seems that Newcastle are having second thoughts about completing the deal now.

While Newcastle are now ruling out signing Scott, the move is not expected to happen any time soon.

Newcastle’s reluctance to bring in Scott, who is a free agent central midfielder, may just add credence to the suggestions that Isaac Hayden could now stay.

Hayden was widely expected to depart Newcastle this summer, but Bruce has suggested in the Shields Gazette that he has held positive talks with the former Arsenal man, and he is now committed to the Magpies again.

Newcastle also seem determined to keep hold of Sean Longstaff, which means that there may no longer be any room for Scott.

That can only be considered good news for Newcastle, as Scott’s transfer was one which was hardly screaming ambition.

Scott is still only 21, so may well develop into a fine player, but he made just one senior appearance for Chelsea and was a relatively unknown quantity, so relying on him stepping up would have been a risk for Newcastle.
