R.S.C. Anderlecht are eyeing a loan move for Man City prospect Liam Delap following the temporary signing of Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
According to Walfoot, the striker will meet with both City and Anderlecht over a potential transfer for the upcoming season.
Delap is regarded as one of the Premier League champions top youth prospects. The youngster scored 29 goals in all competitions last season at youth level.
Delap even scored on his senior team debut for City. The striker bagged the winning goal in a 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth in the League Cup.
Moreover, Pep Guardiola once labelled the teenager as ‘the best’ player in world football in his position and age group via City Xtra.
Anderlecht enjoyed plenty of success last season with Lukas Nmecha. The German youth international was named the club’s Player of the Year and impressed so much that City sold the 22-year-old on a permanent deal to VfL Wolfsburg this summer.
With the Belgian side being managed by Vincent Kompany, it’s easy to understand why Anderlecht is emerging as a suitable destination for young City players to go out on loan.
Delap could thrive away from Man City with Kompany
The three-time Premier League is one of the club’s greatest ever players and captains. And learning the ropes of first-team football under Kompany’s leadership and experience is a great first step for any young player.
Moreover, the Belgian Pro League is an established division where youth development and playing youngsters is a key pillar to their success.
And for Delap, this means that he could experience plenty of first-team football should he make the continental move.
Although City are yet to sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero this summer, Delap is way too early on his career to be shouldering a responsibility as significant as that.
And a loan move to an establishing European club with a manager who knows him will be a great move for the teenager.
