According to The Sun, Everton are plotting a £15m move for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster in January – and he may tempted if the Toffees are challenging for a Champions League.

Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Middlesbrough leaves Everton in second place in the Premier League table, just two points behind league leaders Manchester City.

After such a strong start, Ronald Koeman’s men are looking to secure European football for next season – and the Dutchman won’t have completely ruled out a top four finish and subsequent Champions League football.

With that in mind, Everton may make some big moves in the January transfer window, with one of Koeman’s former players being linked with a move to Goodison Park.

The Sun report that Koeman is keen to reunite with Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who he signed for the Saints from Celtic back in the summer of 2014.

Forster, 28, has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League during his time with Southampton, whilst he’s now breathing down the neck of Joe Hart in the battle for England’s number one jersey.

Southampton would hate to lose Forster having seen so many key players leave the club over the last couple of years, but Everton will allegedly test their resolve with a £15m offer for Forster as Koeman looks to solve his goalkeeping situation.

Maarten Stekelenburg – who served as Forster’s backup at Southampton last season – has started the season as Everton’s first-choice goalkeeper, but with Joel Robles seemingly having little future at Goodison Park, Koeman may look to snap up Forster as his new first choice.

It’s claimed that Forster would consider a move to link up with Koeman again if Everton look like they could be in contention for Champions League football, as he’s currently settled on the South Coast, whilst the Toffees have also looked at Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as they pursue another shot stopper.
