Everton reportedly want Vitesse Arnhem goalkeeper Eloy Room.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are hoping to bring Vitesse Arnhem goalkeeper Eloy Room to Goodison Park this summer as a replacement for Joel Robles.
The Toffees have splashed the cash heavily already this summer, and whilst the return of Wayne Rooney may have grabbed the headlines, they did bring in a new goalkeeper in Jordan Pickford.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
Ex-Sunderland stopper Pickford arrives to become Everton’s new first-choice goalkeeper, and whilst Maarten Stekelenburg may stick around as a trusted player of manager Ronald Koeman, Joel Robles is expected to leave.
Even with Stekelenburg in the ranks, the Liverpool Echo report that Koeman wants another goalkeeper to replace Robles as cover for Pickford, and Vitesse Arnhem’s Eloy Room is his top target.
Room, 28, has become Vitese’s first-choice goalkeeper in recent years, and having been with the club since the age of 13, he has now made more than 150 appearances for Vitesse.
It’s claimed that Room has a £1.5million release clause in his contract, and with Robles keen to pursue first-team football elsewhere, Koeman is lining up his successor in a bargain move.
Eloy Room (R)
A Curacao international with 16 caps to his name, Room has been a solid if unspectacular goalkeeper in the Eredivisie, and Koeman has often shown a tendency to go back to his native Netherlands for new signings.
Room fits the bill, and whilst he would make sense as a replacement for Robles, it remains to be seen whether he would be interested in trading first-team football for a place on the Everton bench.
