Everton are reportedly confident of signing defender Michael Keane this summer.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
According to The Mirror, Everton boss Ronald Koeman is confident that the club will seal a summer move for Burnley defender Michael Keane.
The Toffees claimed another victory on Saturday afternoon as they beat Sunderland 2-0 at Goodison Park, meaning it’s now nine games unbeaten for Koeman’s men.
Another clean sheet keeps the club’s impressive defensive form going, but manager Koeman may yet look to boost his defence in the summer, given that Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are both over 30, whilst Ramiro Funes Mori has blown hot and cold in his time with the club.
Now, The Mirror report that Everton boss Koeman is confident that the club will land Burnley’s Michael Keane at the end of the season, having resigned themselves to defeat in their pursuit of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.
Keane, 24, was on the books at Manchester United before a loan move to Burnley in 2014, and he made the switch permanent in January 2015, becoming a key player under Sean Dyche at Turf Moor.
The centre back has not only starred in the Premier League this season, but has also been called up for the England national team, with Gareth Southgate among the many to have been impressed with his performances.
Burnley’s Michael Keane celebrates scoring
The problem for Burnley is that Keane – who scored their equaliser against Hull City on Saturday – has just over one year left on his contract with the club, and Premier League rivals are now keen.
It’s stated that Koeman is now confident that Everton will secure a deal for Keane even though he could cost at least £20million, with the Toffees seemingly viewing him as a player who can lead their defence in the years to come.
