According to the Mirror, Jurgen Klopp will enter the market in January as he looks to bring an experienced centre-back to Liverpool.

The report states that the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss has changed his mind in regards to transfer plans following an injury to Joe Gomez.

The Mirror state that Klopp initially wanted to bring a centre-back to Anfield in January, with a move for 20-year-old Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak being considered.

However, the German is now keen to sign a more experienced face who can slot straight into his first-team, rather than acquire a young prospect.

The Mirror mention that Klopp rates Napoli colossus Kalidou Koulibaly, while he has also monitored RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.

Interestingly, the report states that Liverpool have good connections with the Red Bull hierarchy, with a deal making sense economically and also football-wise.

After losing Virgil van Dijk, Gomez and Fabinho, Klopp has Joel Matip as his only senior centre-back.

Youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips are also options.

This is definitely a wise move from Klopp to change his plan.

Liverpool’s injury crisis is a near-unprecedented one for them, with Trent Alexander-Arnold also currently injured.

The Premier League champions’ backline has been completely devastated by injuries, and the market certainly needs to be utilised in January.
