Liverpool are eyeing a central defensive signing, who could be Joel Matip’s long term replacement, the Sunday World report.
Liverpool are short on numbers at the back this season, but club insiders have reportedly told the newspaper that the Reds are not expecting to make any major signings in the near future.
Instead, Liverpool are targeting a younger player, who can be Matip’s replacement over the long-term.
Matip’s fitness has proven unreliable and he has once again picked up an injury and an awful time.
With Liverpool without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Matip was their most experienced central defender, but Jurgen Klopp has once again been unable to rely upon the rangy centre-back.
Matip just cannot avoid the treatment table, and Liverpool are now lining up a replacement for the £100k-a-week Cameroonian (Spotrac).

Sven Botman and Ben White are listed as targets, with agents apparently knowing about the Reds interest in the pair.
Botman has caught the eye in Ligue 1 for Lille, with the youngster regarded as one of the best prospects in France.
White, meanwhile, has looked comfortable in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion, and he could well go straight into Liverpool’s starting line-up, if he was to be signed this month.
