Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping that he will be able to play Joel Matip against Manchester City, The Times report.
Liverpool are badly struggling for numbers at the back currently, with Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho both out.
Van Dijk is set to miss the rest of the season, while Fabinho could be out for Liverpool’s next three games, which leaves Klopp’s options looking very limited.
Matip’s return would be a boost for the Reds, but the central defender just seemingly can’t quite make it off the treatment table.
Matip has been on the verge of returning to fitness for weeks now, but has still not been made available for selection.
However, the latest update suggests that Klopp is hopeful that the rangy centre-back will be back in time to play against City in two weekends’ time.

That will be a major boost for Liverpool, as if Matip is out, they could be forced to play a youngster against one of their biggest title rivals.
With so many injuries, Klopp has suggested that he may have to turn to Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips to play alongside Joe Gomez at the back.
While Williams has looked solid so far, a game against City would be a huge test for a 19-year-old with such limited experience.
And if Matip could return in time to face Pep Guardiola’s side, Liverpool’s chances of picking up the three points would surely be greatly increased.
