If rumours are believed, Liverpool are trying to break their transfer record.

Virgil van Dijk’s £75 million move to the Reds in 2018 stands as the most amount of money that the Anfield club has ever spent on a player.

But it looks like Liverpool want Juventus star Federico Chiesa – who’s on loan from Fiorentina – to take over that title from the Dutchman.

According to La Repubblica, the Premier League giants have lodged an £86 million bid for the Italy international.

Chiesa’s stock is at an all-time high right now after inspiring the Azzurri to a Euro 2020 title under Roberto Mancini this month.

The report from Italy adds that Jurgen Klopp views him as a ‘perfect’ player for his 4-3-3 system at Liverpool.

However, La Repubblica add that Juve have rejected the initial offer and now the ball is very much in the Reds’ court.

Should they go back?

In a word, yep.

Liverpool fans won’t have a bad word said about Sadio Mane, and rightly so because he has been phenomenal since joining them in 2016.

But 16 goals in all competitions for the Senegal international last season was a poor return for somebody of his ability and Klopp is right to be looking to the future.

And at 23, Chiesa has one hell of a future in the game and even if it costs Liverpool a fortune, they won’t regret it.
