According to The Telegraph, Liverpool remain keen on signing Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – and won’t be put off by his £35million asking price.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, now 23, joined Arsenal from Southampton at the age of just 17, having hit ten goals in 43 games for the Saints, then in League One.

Touted as the next big thing in English football, Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown flashes of his quality during his time with Arsenal, but has failed to win regular playing time under Arsene Wenger.

The England international, who has 25 caps to his name, has enjoyed his best goalscoring return this season with six goals in 39 games, but he has still been limited to just 12 Premier League starts, with Wenger seemingly unsure whether to play him out wide or centrally.

Now, with just over a year left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, Oxlade-Chamberlain could move on this summer – and The Telegraph report that Liverpool are keen, even though he would cost around £35million.

It’s stated that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Oxlade-Chamberlain, and he wouldn’t put off by the £35million asking price, with the Reds allegedly set to ramp up their efforts to sign him.

Arsenal have yet to hold formal talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain about a new contract, and the player himself is believed to be frustrated about his role at the Emirates Stadium, opening the door to a summer move.

Liverpool could be a good home for him, as Oxlade-Chamberlain could play out wide in Klopp’s three-man attack, or in an attack-minded central role, as we have seen Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum thrive in this season – but whether Arsenal would want to sell to a direct rival remains to be seen.
