Jurgen Klopp still hasn’t decided whether Nathaniel Phillips will be at Liverpool next season, the Athletic say.
Phillips performed a heroic role at Liverpool this term – after stepping into their defence in unexpected circumstances.
The towering central defender may not have been predicted to get much game time at the start of the season.
However, after a spate of injuries, Phillips became the leader of Liverpool’s backline.
He has really grown into the role and his performance against Burnley recently showed just how comfortable he now is in the Reds defence.
Phillips has earned huge praise from Klopp publicly, but it seems that there is still a decision to be made.
The Sunday World recently claimed that Phillips was set for a key role at Liverpool, but the Atheltic’s update refutes these claims.

Indeed, they say that no final decision has been made over Phillips’ future.
Liverpool are set to bring in another centre-back this summer, while there are hopes that Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk will be fit for the start of next campaign.
All those factors mean that Phillips could be forced down the pecking order, and the 24-year-old may well be keen to avoid sitting on the bench, after proving his capabilities to play regularly at the top level this term.
