What a breakthrough season it’s been for Curtis Jones at Liverpool.
Not only did the 19-year-old make his Premier League debut, but he also scored the winning goal for the Reds in an FA Cup win over Merseyside rivals Everton – and what a goal it was.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp labelled him an ‘unbelievable’ player after that victory [ESPN].
Despite his acclaim, Jones is essentially a fringe player at Anfield, having managed only 19 minutes of Premier League football this season.
But that could well change next season.
According to The Times on Friday, Klopp will promote the Kirkby academy graduate next term instead of signing a replacement for the departing Adam Lallana.
The report adds that the German manager and his coaching staff have decided that Jones has earned the chance for more first-team chances in the Premier League, of which the Reds are now champions.
Chelsea’s win over Manchester City on Thursday confirmed the Anfield club as title winners for the first time in 30 years.
This is a glorious era for Liverpool – and it looks like Jones will be given a more prominent role in it from next season onward.
