Jurgen Klopp actually warned Timo Werner that a move to Liverpool may not happen way back in April, according to the Independent.
There was wide spread shock last week when a potential move to Liverpool fell through for Werner, with the striker now set to join Chelsea.
However, Klopp was seemingly braced for the news – and actually gave the German striker a heads up that a move to Anfield may not be likely.
Klopp reportedly spoke to Werner two months ago, when he told the RB Leipzig player that Liverpool may not have the finances to land him.
Klopp is thought to be a huge fan of Werner, but Leipzig refused to sell him for cheaper than his £53 million release clause, which proved problematic for the Reds.
Liverpool will now have to look at alternative targets, but there is a very real possibility that no big additions will be made this summer.
Instead the Independent claim that Liverpool’s priority is tying down their key players to new contracts, with Klopp determined to keep his current squad together after their success this season.
