According to The Athletic, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not let Ben Woodburn join Aston Villa in the summer of 2018 and sent him to Sheffield United instead.
It has been reported that Villa, Wigan Athletic and United were interested in signing Woodburn on loan from Liverpool in the summer of 2018.
Klopp felt that the Blades would be best club for him to prosper, having been impressed by the midfielder in pre-season, according to the report, which has added that the 21-year-old will now drop back into the Under-23 set-up at the defending Premier League champions.
The Wales international midfielder is now back at Liverpool after a loan spell at Blackpool.
Ben Woodburn’s Sheffield United loan spell
United won promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of 2018-19 campaign.
Woodburn failed to break into Chris Wilder’s side, as he made just one start and six substitute appearances in the Championship for the Blades, according to WhoScored, before returning to Anfield midway through the season after an ankle injury.
Villa have moved on from Woodburn, and there is no need for the Welshman in manager Dean Smith’s side now.
