Georginio Wijnaldum has left Liverpool.
The Dutchman has signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer after his contract expired at Anfield.
Having played a huge role in Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League titles over the past three years, Wijnaldum undoubtedly leaves a big void.
Quite a few players have been linked with replacing the Netherlands international.
But a report from The Guardian has indicated that Jurgen Klopp may promote from within.
It claims that the German manager could simply start using Curtis Jones a lot more often next season rather than buy an out-and-out replacement.
Jones, a Liverpool academy graduate, only has 14 Premier League starts under his belt since breaking into the senior set-up 18 months ago.
But according to The Guardian, that may change in the near future.
Fans will want both
Liverpool fans love Jones, labelled ‘exceptional‘ by Klopp himself last September.
But the Anfield faithful will also want a proven replacement for Wijnaldum.
Not that Jones isn’t proven, but he’s nowhere near as established as the player who he could be replacing in the first XI every week.
And therefore this is a big decision by Liverpool.
