Jurgen Klopp really wanted to work with Jamal Lewis at Liverpool, according to the Independent.

Liverpool have been pushing to sign Lewis from Norwich City, but just could not meet the valuation of the left-back.

Norwich wanted £20 million for one of their prized prospects, which has put Liverpool off doing a deal.

Klopp could well be disappointed with that news, as he was apparently excited to work with Lewis at Anfield.

The Liverpool boss apparently believed he could turn Lewis into an excellent defender, as he thought that Northern Ireland international had masses of potential and a great attitude.

However, Liverpool chiefs just felt that the potential transfer was too expensive to complete.

Liverpool have now turned their attentions to signing Konstantinos Tsimikas from Olympiacos, with the Greek defender set to come in.

Tsimikas doesn’t have any Premier League experience, like Lewis, and may be slightly less familiar to Klopp than the Norwich man – but he should provide strong cover for Andy Robertson next term.
