Liverpool and Tottenham are reportedly battling for Sheffield United’s David Brooks.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Sheffield United playmaker David Brooks – despite him recently signing a new contract.
Sheffield United have seen youth products such as Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire and Dominic Calvert-Lewin become Premier League regulars since leaving Bramall Lane, and another youngster is set for stardom.
Playmaker Brooks, 20, was on the books with Manchester City before heading to Sheffield United in 2014, and he has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence this term.
After just five appearances last season, Brooks has notched one goals and two assists in 15 Championship games, and he even earned his first Wales cap last week, coming on as a substitute against France.
Now, The Mirror report that Liverpool and Tottenham are both keen to land Brooks for as much as £20million in 2018, with managers Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino battling for his signature.
It’s claimed that Brooks’ starring role in Wales’ draw against Panama – his full international debut –has convinced both managers that Brooks is a star of the future, with both clubs keen.
However, Sheffield United are protected given that Brooks signed a new four-year contract just last month, keeping him at Bramall Lane until 2021.
That may only drive up the price – hence the quoted £20million fee – but Chris Wilder’s men will remain confident that they can keep Brooks with the club for the foreseeable future, especially given their strong start to the season and growing hopes of promotion.
