Newcastle suffered a 1-0 defeat to German Bundesliga side Mainz on Monday afternoon – and The Chronicle report during their live coverage of the match that Kieran Trippier was unhappy with Martin Dubravka in the second half.
Eddie Howe started the 11 players that came off the bench during a 3-0 win over 1860 Munich last time out. It saw Dubravka come in for Pope, and Trippier replace Emil Krafth. 10 of the 11 starting players lasted 60 minutes.
That is, other than Paul Dummett, who came off after 30 minutes for Matt Ritchie, and then Targett getting the last half hour. Delano Burgzorg scored the only goal of the game in the second half, with a left-footed finish.

Played through on goal, Burgzorg managed to squeeze a left-footed shot past the initially backpeddling Dubravka, who then came to meet Burgzorg. Trippier seemed to complain that Dubravka did not meet him earlier.
The Chronicle reported: “Trippier isn’t happy with the ref or Dubravka. Burgzorg found himself in acres of space as a clever through ball breaks the defence. Calm finish but Dubravka could probably have done better.”

It is an interesting few weeks ahead for Dubravka. Nick Pope has arrived and is likely to be first choice. So, where does that leave Dubravka? Does he stay and compete with Pope, or leave and join a side where he is the no.1?
At the moment, he is staying at Newcastle. The £4million (Sun) signing had enjoyed a good first 45, making a couple of excellent stops. But his decision making allowed Burgzorg to neatly took past him. Indecisive.
Perhaps, that indecision comes from being nervous as he tries to impress Howe and keep the no.1 spot. But it clearly frustrated Trippier, as Newcastle suffered a loss in their second friendly in Austria.
