Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on signing the Italy international.

Bad news for Tottenham fans today, with Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato reporting that long-term target Bryan Cristante is currently undergoing a medical in the Italian capital ahead of a proposed switch to Roma.
The Serie A side are close to finalising a €30 million (£26.3 million) deal for the Italian midfield ace, according to Calcio Mercato, and Spurs will now be forced to look elsewhere.

According to the Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino identified the Benfica-owned ace as the perfect long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, with the Belgian’s future in north London becoming increasingly more uncertain with every day that passes.

Cristante enjoyed a fine campaign whilst on loan with Atalanta last season, chalking up 12 goals and four assists in 47 appearances in all competitions for the Italian side – all from an orthodox central midfield position.
He would have been an excellent addition to the Tottenham squad, but if Calcio Mercato’s report is to be believed, the north London outfit will have to go back to the drawing board, as they look to add further depth to their midfield options.
