Everton have been handed a major Merseyside derby boost with Lucas Digne confident that he will be fit to play against Liverpool, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Toffees fans all over Merseyside were left wincing and praying as their buccaneering left-back limped out of France’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League victory over Croatia on Tuesday night.
After all, Digne is a major reason why Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees are top of the table with a 100 per cent start to the campaign.
On current form, there may not be a better left-back in the game right now.
While Niels Nkounkou has looked the real deal in a few explosive EFL Cup appearances, the Merseyside derby is no place for a raw, unproven 19-year-old.
According to reports from the North West, Digne is confident he will be passed fit to play and go head-to-head with a certain Mo Salah on Saturday.
There are still doubts, however, about central defender Yerry Mina while Mason Holgate and Jarrod Branthwaite are stuck on the sidelines too.
Ben Godfrey, the £25 million signing from Norwich City, may be about to make his Everton debut in the most high-pressure of circumstances.
“Godfrey is a really talented player,” Ancelotti told Everton TV this week. “He’s really fast, very quick. He has different characteristics from the centre-backs we have in this moment.
“He’s a complete defender – fast, good with his head and good with the ball. He has all the quality to be a really good centre-back.”
