According to The Sun, Manchester City remain confident of tying playmaker Kevin De Bruyne down to a new contract.

It’s claimed that De Bruyne doesn’t feel City’s first offer reflects his importance to City, and is ‘frustrated’ at the lack of progress in talks.

De Bruyne’s father and lawyers are leading the talks with City, but it seems there is a lot of work to be done if he is to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The 29-year-old has admitted that he wants to stay, and the club want him to stay, but working out the figures will be the issue.

De Bruyne already earns £300,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium, so given him a huge improvement on that may be difficult even for City.

His deal only expires in 2023, so City at least have plenty of time on their side, and will hope to iron out issues in the negotiations.

A key player ever since his £54million move from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has racked up 60 goals and a staggering 101 assists in 240 appearances for City.

His creativity continues to fuel City, recording 12 assists in all competitions this season, and he turned in a stunning display against Chelsea on Sunday.

The talks with De Bruyne haven’t exactly started well, but City clearly still have hope that he will commit to the club well into his 30’s.
