Birmingham are in need of extra depth at full-back, and Gary Rowett may be hoping that the 29-year-old can provide that.
Kevin Constant
A report in the Birmingham Mail has claimed that former AC Milan defender Kevin Constant is currently training with Championship side Birmingham City.
In July, the Birmingham Mail reported that Dutchman Dwight Tiendalli had joined the Blues on trial as Gary Rowett tried to add additional depth at full-back.
But with a deal for the former Swansea man not materialising, and with Rhoys Wiggins and Paul Caddis now sidelined due to injury (via Mail), Rowett’s need for a new signing has arguably become much greater.
With the loan window no longer in existence, the Birmingham boss has had to turn to a free agent in his quest to find cover. But it is surely fair to say that the free agent they have brought in would be an excellent signing if a deal does ultimately go through, though the Mail does not suggest whether a potential contract could be arranged.
Birmingham manager Gary Rowett
HITC Sport reported back in September that Constant had held talks with several Premier League sides, including West Ham and Everton. And while those talks seemingly came to nothing, the fact that he was on the top flight radar so recently would certainly suggest that he would have plenty to offer at St Andrew’s.
Though Constant is predominantly considered to be a left-back, he can also play further forward, either in midfield or out on the wing. And with Birmingham’s squad perhaps needing further depth in several areas if they hope to sustain a play-off push, signing Constant would surely be an excellent piece of business.
