Newcastle United are reportedly on the verge of bringing Kenedy back to St James’ Park for another loan spell.
Kenedy has been one of Rafa Benitez’s top targets for the summer. The Brazilian was simply superb after joining the Magpies in January for the second-half of last season. Though he left with a slightly underwhelming record on paper of two goals and two assists, his contribution was arguably a lot greater than that.
The 22-year-old helped create an incredible sense of optimism on Tyneside during the months that he spent at St James’ Park and Newcastle put together a stunning run that lifted them into the top-half of the table by the time the campaign concluded.
It will be a massive boost for Benitez to have the attacker through the door. He has so far managed to get two signings in – with Martin Dubravka’s loan being converted into a permanent deal, while Ki Sung-yueng has arrived on a free transfer – and the signs suggest that he is working with a tight budget once again.
While a loan deal for Kenedy will do little to combat those concerns, it is undoubtedly a major coup for the Magpies to get another deal done, especially when the player in question has not cost them a penny in transfer fees and has already established himself as a seriously exciting talent.
