Everton are reportedly keen on Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel
According to The Mirror, Everton are interested in a summer deal for Kasper Schmeichel, with Ronald Koeman pursuing a new goalkeeper.
The Toffees saw Tim Howard leave the club for Colorado Rapids last summer, with manager Koeman swooping to sign Maarten Stekelenburg as his replacement having worked with the Dutchman at both Ajax and Southampton.
Stekeleburg started the season as Everton’s first-choice goalkeeper, but Joel Robles has since replaced him, with Koeman seemingly not quite convinced that either shot-stopper is the long-term solution for Everton.
A number of goalkeepers have been linked with summer moves to the club at the end of the season, with one Premier League champion now being suggested.
The Mirror report that Everton are interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who was a key player in the Foxes’ Premier League title win last season.
The Dane, 30, has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers over the last 18 months, and whilst he has endured some injury issues this season, he has been one of Leicester’s better players in a difficult season.
Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel
If Leicester suffer relegation to the Championship this season, then Schmeichel will certainly attract Premier League interest, whilst a move to Everton could be appealing even if Leicester do stay up given the ambitious plans at Goodison Park.
The report states that Koeman is a huge admirer of Schmeichel and wants to lure him to Merseyside, with Everton potentially having to pay up to £15million to land the former Manchester City, meaning Joel could be sold to make way for Schmeichel this summer.
