Aitor Karanka is reportedly plotting a high-risk strategy ahead of his first full season as Nottingham Forest boss.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (20/05; page 67), Aitor Karanka is considering taking a massive gamble this season by planning a large spend on players this summer – but faces the sack at Nottingham Forest if he fails to guide the club to the Premier League next season.
Karanka is gearing up for his first full season at the City Ground after being appointed by Forest in January. He only oversaw five wins during his first few months in charge as the club finished 17th in the Championship, but it appears that the board are more than ready to back the 44-year-old.

The Sun on Sunday adds that the Forest board want the side to be securing promotion next season, otherwise they are prepared to get rid of the former Middlesbrough boss.

It is probably little surprise that the Forest board seem to have almost offered something of an ultimatum to the Spaniard given that he has not exactly captured the imagination with the start that he has made to life with the club.
Karanka does know how to win automatic-promotion however, and Forest showed some serious potential at times last season – they dismantled Arsenal in what proved to be Arsene Wenger’s last FA Cup tie and beat the runaway champions Wolves in the same month. So perhaps, the high risk strategy may just be what it takes to finally end the club’s exile from the highest level.
