Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly need to break their transfer record if they hope to sign Douglas Costa.
According to a report from the Daily Mirror (7/4; page 66), Juventus are only willing to sell Spurs target Douglas Costa this summer if they receive £45 million for the midfielder – meaning that Tottenham will need to break their transfer record to sign the 28-year-old.
Costa’s future at Juventus Stadium looks uncertain after a campaign in which he has only started seven times in Serie A, making a further 10 appearances from the bench for the Old Lady.
The Brazilian could be on the move during the summer, and the Mirror reports that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in bringing him to the Premier League as Spurs look to make up for their lack of activity in the previous two windows.
However, the Mirror (7/4; page 66) adds that Juventus want £45 million for Costa, which would make him £3 million more expensive than Davinson Sanchez, who is the club’s record buy following his arrival in 2017.
Costa has not enjoyed the best year this year, but he did provide 12 assists in the Italian top flight last term. And he also contributed nine Bundesliga assists during his penultimate campaign with Bayern Munich, so he is clearly a player that can make an impact.
But given that signing a 28-year-old for £45 million would go against the transfer policy that Spurs have stuck to superbly in recent years, it would be a surprise if the Premier League side decided to pursue a deal unless they could get Juventus to compromise on his asking price.
