Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window, a player Arsenal have been tipped to land after coming close to the Brazilian in the summer.

According to CalcioMercato, the Serie A side retain an interest in the 24-year-old after Juventus were linked with signing Luiz as reported by Sky Italia, with the £30m-rated midfielder strongly linked with an exit from Villa Park throughout the summer.

However, as we know, Luiz remained with Steven Gerrard’s side after the closure of the transfer window. Whilst the South American is playing regular minutes for Villa, there’s a strong sense that the former Manchester City talent will leave the Birmingham-based side in 2023, with Juventus now back in the race for the midfielder.

The Bianconeri aren’t alone in their interest, though, with journalist Simon Phillips recently tipping Arsenal to sign Luiz in January ahead of Premier League rivals Chelsea, yet Juventus could provide quite the contest for the Gunners ahead of the new year.

With Arsenal likely to move for a central midfielder in the next transfer window, Luiz could once again be on Mikel Arteta’s agenda, but Juventus could consider themselves favourites to sign the Villa star, especially after the Italian giants beat the Gunners to Dusan Vlahovic last year.

Indeed, the January transfer window is already lining up to be one of the biggest in recent memory given the fact that there is a winter World Cup this year. And for Luiz, there is a good chance that a Brazil call-up could lead to Juventus or Arsenal moving to sign the 24-year-old.

Luiz was on the cusp of joining Arsenal this summer, however, if Juventus were to make an attempt to sign the South American in January, a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs who regularly qualify for the UEFA Champions League would be too good an opportunity to turn down.

After all, whilst Arsenal sit top of the Premier League, there’s still no guarantee that the Gunners will make top-four this season, and for Luiz, this uncertainty coupled with Juventus’ interest makes it a no-brainer that the midfielder should join the Old Lady.
