Juventus have reportedly ended their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Juventus have abandoned their interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes – but an offer from Tottenham Hotspur remains on the table.

Gomes, 24, had emerged as a top young star his native Portugal with Benfica, and his performances earned him a 2014 move to Valencia, where he found the net nine times in 78 games.

After impressing with Valencia, Barcelona swooped to land Gomes in a £45million deal (BBC Sport), with the intention of making him a key part of their midfield for the years to come given Andres Iniesta’s age.

However, Gomes struggled to make an impact last season, starting only 17 La Liga games with some disappointing performances, whilst he has started just two league games under Ernesto Valverde this season.

Back in August, Barcelona rejected a loan bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Gomes, as reported by the Daily Mail, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men seemingly aren’t giving up just yet.

Mundo Deportivo report that an offer to Gomes’ agent Jorge Mendes remains on the table from Spurs ahead of the January transfer window, and Pochettino may hope to land him at the second time of asking.

Pochettino’s hopes have been boosted as the report claims that Italian giants are switching their attention to Schalke’s Leon Goretzka, abandoning their pursuit of Gomes despite targeting over the summer.

With concerns over Victor Wanyama’s injury and niggling knocks for Mousa Dembele, Spurs could make Gomes a priority in January, and reports of an offer being on the table suggest that Spurs lead the race for his signature.
