Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool board this week that £53 million RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner would be the ideal addition to his already star-studded squad, according to the Guardian.
Werner’s desire to pull on the famous red shirt of a Merseyside giant is now so well-documented that we can no longer even call it ‘football’s worst kept secret’.
Speaking to Viaplay after inspiring Leipzig’s Champions League victory over Tottenham in February, the Germany international admitted that he was flattered to be linked with a move to the ‘best team in the world’.
And the admiration, it seems, goes both ways.
Klopp loves forwards with searing pace, a strong worth ethic and the ability to play anywhere across the front line. Three ticks in Werner’s box, then, with the former Stuttgart youngster looking pretty much tailor-made for this Liverpool side.
The Guardian reports that the Reds have until July to trigger a £53 million release clause in his contract. And while the ongoing financial crisis has raised doubts about whether a deal can be done this summer, Klopp has made sure to remind the Liverpool board of his desire to bring Werner to Anfield.

The manager, it is claimed, has told his superiors that Werner would be the ‘perfect’ signing.
A hat-trick in Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of Mainz means the 24-year-old now has 30 goals in all competitions this season. Werner would give Liverpool a different option in attack too, with his Vardy-esque ability to race in behind opposition defences making him pretty much the antithesis of Roberto Firmino.
