According to Tutto Mercato Web, Jürgen Klopp has been left unimpressed by Arthur and would be open to terminating his loan deal in January.

What’s the story?

Well, the Brazil international was something of an uncharacteristic panic signing by the Reds on transfer deadline day at the beginning of September, mainly due to an injury crisis in midfield.

Arthur was signed on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign, and Liverpool hold an option to turn the deal permanent in 2023 for a sum of €37.5m (£32m).

However, that doesn’t seem likely to happen – if Tutto Mercato Web are to be trusted.

The Italian news outlet believe Arthur has not been performing at the level expected by Klopp across his 13 minutes of action, as well as his displays at the AXA Training Centre.

Tutto Mercato Web add that Liverpool are hoping to sign a new midfielder in January, and if a deal does materialise, the Reds would not be afraid to terminate the 26-year-old’s loan.

Liverpool cannot judge Arthur yet

In our view, this story cannot be true – if it is, then Liverpool have been very quick to judge.

Arthur has been in England – a country where he has never played his football before – for less than three weeks, and it will obviously take him a bit of time to acclimatise to his surroundings after a stint in Turin.

Furthermore, a number of Liverpool players – even some of the best in Klopp’s squad – have struggled in recent weeks, which hasn’t created the right environment for Arthur to ease his way into the starting XI.

Above all, Liverpool’s recruitment team very rarely make a mistake when signing new players, so it is hard to believe that the Reds are already having regrets about a deal made just two weeks ago.
