Liverpool have made West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen their top transfer target for 2022, as Jurgen Klopp looks to refresh his attacking options at Anfield, per Calciomercato.

The German wants to update his forward ranks over the next year and insists on a move to sign Bowen. West Ham signed the winger from Hull City in January 2020 for £22m after an impressive run of goals in the Championship.

Bowen made an immediate impression at the London Stadium to secure a key role in David Moyes’ plans. He then found his goalscoring touch again last term to fire home eight and provide five assists over 38 appearances.

Only Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek (10) and Jesse Lingard (9) outscored Bowen with West Ham in the top-flight last term. His efforts in east London also piqued Liverpool’s interest, with The Athletic reporting he featured on a shortlist of possible attacking transfer targets.

Liverpool elected against a move in the summer but have kept tabs on Bowen’s progress at West Ham since. An asking price of in excess of £35m may have been a reason in the off-season. But now face more competition with the Independent citing Tottenham as a suitor.

However, Klopp is seemingly keen to see Liverpool beat Spurs to a transfer with West Ham, with Bowen their top target. Adding a dynamic 24-year-old to the Anfield attack, to provide cover and competition on the right or in the centre.

Are Liverpool right to make West Ham star Bowen their top transfer target?

Klopp has clearly seen enough from Bowen at West Ham for Liverpool to make the winger their top transfer target. His output has not been as impressive this season, but his efforts under Moyes are often without doubt.

Bowen scored his first goal of the season in all competitions as the Hammers lost against Brentford on Sunday. He has also provided two assists over 10 appearances, with one in the top-flight and one in the Europa League.

Moyes also fielded Bowen at striker against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup to rest Antonio. He may not have scored, but the Leominster-born forward caused the Red Devils problems throughout. Earning Stuart Pearce’s praise after the game, via football.london:

“I thought Jarrod leading the line was magnificent, playing in probably not his favourite position. But he’s proved to us he can lead the line. He was competitive, and he was a thorn in the side of the United defenders all night.”
