According to The Times, Liverpool will target a new top-level midfielder in the summer of 2023.
The Reds have bolstered both their attack and their defence over the past 12 months with the additions of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsey and Ibrahima Konate, so, it stands to reason to believe that a midfield addition is next on the Merseyside club’s agenda.
Jude Bellingham has long been touted as one of the Reds’ top targets, and that is certainly one to keep an eye on.
However, according to Goal, another player to watch out for is Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.
Indeed, according to this report, Jurgen Klopp is personally a big fan of Barella, and with Liverpool looking to add a new midfielder next year, this could be a situation to watch.
Unfortunately for Klopp and Liverpool, they’re not the only team with eyes on Barella.
Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with a move for the Inter midfielder in recent months, and it’s clear that Antonio Conte is a big fan. After all, he was a key player for him back in Italy and he’s even described him as ‘perfect’ in the past.
Although, after Tottenham added Yves Bissouma to their ranks earlier this month, a move for Barella may no longer be on the cards for Spurs, and depending on how the next 12 months go, Liverpool could swoop for the Italian in the summer of 2023.
Bellingham is the one that Liverpool want, but if the Borussia Dortmund star ends up elsewhere, don’t be surprised if Barella ends up posing at Kirkby with a red shirt this time next year.
