According to Bild, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has approved a move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer.
It’s claimed that Klopp has given it the green light after weeks of speculation, seemingly agreeing with Liverpool’s recruitment staff that he would be an important addition.
The report notes that Thiago already has an agreement with Liverpool should a deal be agreed, but that’s where the problems lie.
Liverpool allegedly want to pay just €25million (£22.5million) for Thiago, whereas Bayern want around €40million (£36million) for the Spaniard.
Bayern want a big fee in order to sign players themselves, but whether Liverpool will pay that much remains to be seen.
Thiago is a quality player with outstanding technique, vision and passing, and he could provide that extra spark of creativity in the Liverpool midfield.
However, he doesn’t quite fit the usual bill for Liverpool. He’s now 29, and it’s hard to imagine the Reds paying more than £30million for any player around that age.
If this report is true, Klopp at least seems keen to land him. There is work to be done with Bayern, but fans will have renewed hope that Thiago is Anfield-bound this summer.
