Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has blocked a potential move for Connor Randall to Preston North End, according to the Daily Mail’s transfer news blog (reported 11:20).

Preston are said to have wanted the 20-year-old on loan but Klopp is said to want to keep hold of Randall as cover at right-back for Nathaniel Clyne.

Randall featured on seven occasions for the Reds last season when Klopp opted to rotate his squad due to a busy fixture schedule.

Liverpool have already let Jon Flanagan leave on loan for Burnley in order to build up his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of a knee injury, while youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold is still at the club, and can also play in the right-back role, as well as other areas.

A loan spell at this stage may have been a pretty good move for Randall in order for him to get some regular game time in order to aid his development, but he may well get a couple of opportunities at Anfield this season judging by this news, though he could have to wait given how well Nathaniel Clyne has performed since his arrival from Southampton last summer.

Randall may have a bit of work to do in order to try and get himself into Klopp’s thinking in terms of the starting XI, though he may see it as an opportunity to impress the manager first hand.
