According to The Telegraph, Wolves have triggered their clause to sign Hwang Hee-chan, amid interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, Wolves signed the 26-year-old on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig back in August, where they negotiated an option to buy.
So far, Hwang has shone in the Premier League, scoring four goals in ten starts before a hamstring injury stunted his progress.
Nevertheless, Wolves saw enough to trigger their £14m clause to sign the 43-cap South Korea international on a permanent basis.
The decision ends any chance of a Premier League rival pinching Hwang from Wolves – The Telegraph believe Liverpool and Tottenham were monitoring his progress in England.
Hwang has been given a long-term contract at Molineux, and is expected to return from his hamstring injury in February.
Liverpool and Tottenham should keep watching Hwang
In our view, this decision from Wolves will not keep Liverpool and Tottenham away for good.
As we’ve seen in the rise of Diogo Jota, there are some incredible players outside of the Premier League’s so-called top six, who are on the cusp of reaching a world class level.
So far this season, Hwang has looked every bit as ferocious and aggressive as Jota in attack, while he has incredible composure in front of goal.
The Wolves No.26 – in a similar way to Carlos Tevez – is built for the Premier League with his stocky frame, and we believe he’s only going to get better in the Midlands.
Lage must now do his best to keep Hwang happy in the Midlands, and ensure he keeps his focus on Wolves amid interest from elsewhere.
Regardless of Liverpool and Tottenham, Wolves must be commended for finding such a fantastic deal in this market.
