According to the Daily Mail, Jurgen Klopp and the Fenway Sports Group agree that talents Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Takumi Minamino should play over Adam Lallana.

It’s claimed that Liverpool are close to agreeing a short-term extension with Lallana. His current deal ends this month, but the Reds will have him for the remainder of the season.

However, just how much Lallana will play remains to be seen. That’s because Klopp, FSG and Lallana are all in agreement about the playing time of others.

They allegedly agree that priority should go to Jones, Elliott and Minamino in terms of playing time, because they will be long-term options.

Lallana will merely be squad depth in case anything goes wrong, with Klopp and co set to push for young players to be given minutes.

Elliott may not be impacted by Lallana’s situation given that he is purely a winger, but Jones and Minamino may be given major opportunities to step up.

Jones is the favourite to take Lallana’s minutes next season rather than bringing in a new signing, whilst Minamino needs playing time having been brought along slowly since his January arrival from Red Bull Salzburg.

Minamino’s versatility may tempt Klopp into trying him as an attacking midfield player or as the most free-roaming of his midfield three, with the Japan star potentially set to benefit from Lallana’s situation.
