After nearly a month of searching Leeds United have finally appointed their new manager to replace Garry Monk, who left the club and has since taken over at Middlesbrough.
They appointed Danish-born former Spanish international Thomas Christiansen, who most recently managed APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus.
Thomas Christiansen
He will be hoping to push Leeds toward promotion from the Championship, and have a similar impact as that of the also previously unknown David Wagner at West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.
In order to do so, he will now be looking to employ his own staff.
Pep Clotet (L) with Rafael Benitez
Pep Clotet previously assisted Monk at Leeds and his future is not yet known, but it appears that Christiansen’s former deputy is on his way to Leeds.
According to a report from Siete Semanal in Spain his former assistant at AEK Larnaca and Nicosia, Julio Banuelos, is on his way to take up an assistant management role at Elland Road.
The 46-year-old is the former manager of Deportivo Alaves, CD Mirandes, Burgos and UE Olot and would be a sensible choice from Christiansen, as the pair have such a succesful working partnership.
