Boca Juniors vice president and Argentine legend Juan Roman Riquelme is desperate to sign Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, but El Crack Deportivo say a move is unlikely and may only materialise in a number of years.
Bentancur, 25, is in superb form for Tottenham having joined Antonio Conte’s side in January from Juventus. Already clocking up 39 appearances for Spurs since that move, he has had a hand in 13 goals. He has since been in Qatar.
Uruguay exited the World Cup early, in the group stages. Son Heung-min’s South Korea qualified for the last 16 above Bentancur and Uruguay, alongside Portugal. Bentancur, though, was one of his nation’s best players, despite the exit.
The latest report from El Crack Deportivo says Bentancur is generating plenty of interest in his services. They claim that Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid all want to land the 54-time Uruguay star ahead of the January window.
However, the report also states that Bentancur is Riquelme’s dream signing at Boca. The Argentine giants have a place in Bentancur’s heart, joining the club as a 12-year-old and clocking up 66 senior appearances for them.

Riquelme is desperate to sign Tottenham midfielder Bentancur
While Riquelme sees Bentancur as his dream signing, he is also aware that a move to sign the midfielder is unlikely. The report states that a move to bring Bentancur back to Boca would only occur in a number of years.
Certainly, Bentancur will be tempted by a return to Boca. But while he is thriving in Europe and starring for Tottenham, it is unlikely. He is still only 25. So, a move back to the club where it all started might not happen until his thirties.
Indeed, at the very earliest, Riquelme can only harbour any realistic hopes of signing one of Tottenham’s star players from 2030 or onwards. When Bentancur is 33 or elder. As things stand, he is going to have a long career in Europe.
