The playmaker would have been forgiven for thinking that his days at Manchester United were numbered following Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
Juan Mata
A report in the Daily Mirror has claimed that Juan Mata is set to be rewarded with a new deal at Manchester United following his excellent start to the new season.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho talks with Juan Mata
Many were writing off Mata’s hopes of remaining a key man for the Red Devils following Jose Mourinho’s appointment. The Portuguese seemingly provided an indication of how highly he rated the Spaniard when he was willing to sell him to a potential title rival when he was the boss at Chelsea.
And it appeared that Mourinho’s opinion had not changed after he was appointed Manchester United’s boss in the summer as he substituted Mata off during the Community Shield around 25 minutes after Mata himself had just come on.
However, since then, the 28-year-old has seemingly proved his worth to Mourinho with a string of fine displays as he is now in line to extend his contract, which currently expires at the end of next season.
The Mirror report that the new deal will see Mata remain with the Red Devils for the next four years. And Mourinho will be hoping that he continues to show the form that he has displayed during the opening weeks of this season as it will go a long way to helping the side put themselves in the title picture in future.
