According to Goal, ex-Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic could finally land himself a new club having left the Bhoys last year.

It’s claimed that Bundesliga duo Augsburg and Stuttgart are both interested in signing Simunovic on a free transfer.

However, Southampton are also thought to be keen on signing Simunovic, with the defender thought to be considering his options.

The 26-year-old has been a free agent since being released way back in May 2020, meaning he is approaching a year of being without a club.

Simunovic struggled with injuries at Celtic, but he did still manage more than 125 appearances in five years at Parkhead.

A move to Germany could help Simunovic get his career back on track, but it’s hard to imagine a move to Southampton materialising.

They have the likes of Jannik Vestergaard, Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens and Mohammed Salisu, meaning signing another centre back would be strange unless there are real fears over Salisu’s fitness.

Simunovic heading to the South Coast would see him reunite with Fraser Forster and Stuart Armstrong, but we just find a move to the Saints to be a little left-field right now.
