Manchester United are reportedly pursuing Celtic defender Kieran Tierney.
According to the Daily Record, Manchester United are planning a summer bid for Celtic defender Kieran Tierney, with manager Jose Mourinho ‘sold’ on him.
United have missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City this season, barring a bizarre turn of events, and manager Mourinho is coming under increasing pressure.
Mourinho will get another transfer window this summer to re-tool his squad, and one area that must be resolved is left back, where Ashley Young has filled in and Luke Shaw has been frozen out.
Now, it’s claimed that Mourinho wants to bring in Celtic’s Kieran Tierney to fill that role, having been ‘sold’ on the Bhoys ace due to his versatility.
Tierney, 20, has come up through the ranks with Celtic having joined the club way back in 2005, fulfilling something of a dream given that he grew up supporting the Bhoys.
The Isle of Man-born Scotland international now has 120 first-team appearances to his name for Celtic, and appears to be Mourinho’s top target to become United’s new left back.
Given that he can also play at centre back, Mourinho is understood to love Tierney’s versatility, and a bid of more than £20million could be on the way this summer.
Whether Tierney will be willing to leave the club he loves remains to be seen, but the lure of playing for Manchester United may simply be too strong for the youngster, who has already won every domestic trophy with Celtic.
