According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Jose Mourinho has told friends that he would be interested in considering the Newcastle job amid rumours that he is a target for the man looking to buy the Magpies off Mike Ashley.
Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan is still apparently hoping to take over at St James’ Park, with the Mirror reporting that his advisors are insistent that his £350 million offer is genuine.
The Mirror adds that Mourinho is one of the managers that he hopes to consider for the job with Rafa Benitez’s future in doubt, and the Special One is open to the possibility of taking the post.
The report notes that Mourinho has a soft spot for Newcastle due to his connections with the great Sir Bobby Robson, and has told friends that he would consider heading to Tyneside if the chance presented itself.
Mourinho’s reputation has arguably taken a hit thanks to his tenure at Manchester United, and it may worry some supporters that he has not spent more than a few years at any club throughout his managerial career.
But he is still one of the very best the world has seen since the turn of the Millennium and has enjoyed success at virtually every club he has taken charge of. If Benitez does end up leaving, perhaps appointing Mourinho could be a very good move from the new owners should they manage to get their takeover across the line.
