According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho kiboshed a deadline day exit for defender Japhet Tanganga.
It’s claimed that Celtic made a move for Tanganga, as did Southampton and West Bromwich Albion as the deadline approached.
However, Mourinho was the one who wanted to keep Tanganga, making it clear that he would not be making a last-gasp exit.
Tanganga has become a first-team player under Mourinho over the last year, and seems highly regarded at Tottenham.
The 21-year-old hasn’t made a single Premier League appearance this season though, and clubs seemingly wanted to try their luck with loan bids.
Celtic wanted a right back having allowed Jeremie Frimpong to join Bayer Leverkusen, and signed Jonjoe Kenny from Everton having been told Tanganga wouldn’t go.

Southampton had success with a Spurs loan this time last year by taking Kyle Walker-Peters, who ended up turning his move permanent.
With Tanganga now staying for the rest of the season, let’s see just how much Mourinho wants to use him moving forward.
